David Townsend, Director of Bands
The 2016-17 year is Mr. Townsend’s eleventh year with the Alma Schools. This will be Mr. Townsend’s second year as Director of Bands after spending four years as Director of Athletic Bands. He previously served as the Director of Bands at Alma Middle School, where he directed the AMS Honor Band, taught beginner Flute, Saxophone, Double Reed, and Clarinet classes, and assisted with the High School Bands. Before coming to Alma, Mr. Townsend served as the Director of Bands at Green Forest, Arkansas, at Savannah, Missouri and at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri. Mr. Townsend holds Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Mr. Townsend’s professional affiliations include the Arkansas Bandmaster’s Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster’s Fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Kent Myers, Assistant Director
The 2016-17 school year is Mr. Myers seventh year with the Alma band program. Mr. Myers assists with the Airedale Marching Band, directs the AHS Basketball Pep Band and co-directs the high school Concert Band and the middle school Eighth Grade Band. He also teaches beginning band classes for trombone and tuba at AMS as well as AP Music Theory at the high school. Prior to coming to Alma, Mr. Myers served for three years as the Director of Bands for the South Ripley Community School Corporation in Versailles, Indiana. Mr. Myers graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from the University of Kentucky in 2004 and obtained a Master of Music degree from the University of Arkansas in 2007. Mr. Myers’ professional affiliations include the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the Golden Key International Honour Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
Adam Gooden, AMS Assistant Director
Adam Gooden is beginning his eighteenth year with the Alma Schools. He teaches beginner classes in Horn, Clarinet, Double Reeds, and Cornet at Alma Middle School and assists with the 8th Grade and 7th Grade bands. Before coming to Alma, Mr. Gooden served for eight years as Director of Bands in the Franklin Independent School District in Franklin, Texas. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Arkansas in 1990.
